Why not transform your living room with a feature wall?

If you fancy trying something a bit different in your living room, you could consider going for a feature wall to brighten up the space.
Feature walls are extremely popular in interior design circles at the moment, as they allow people to inject some colour and bold patterns into the space in an easy manner.
Even if you prefer a generally neutral colour scheme throughout your living room, you could add some personality to the space with a feature wall. It's a great option for people who aren't particularly brave when it comes to decorating - you can be fairly experimental on one wall, but still quite safe on the others!
Once you've decided that you like the idea of a feature wall in your living room, make sure you choose the particular wall that will make most impact. If possible, use a wall that doesn't have doors or windows, as these could break up the flow of a pattern or colour. If you already have an alcove or special feature on any wall you should try to use that for your feature wall, so that you're accentuating - and not competing with - an already interesting part of the room.
The next step is to make a decision regarding whether you'll be using paint or wallpaper for the wall. If you want to have something a bit bold and different, wallpaper is probably the way forward, as you could opt for a retro design with a unique lighting fitting to make the room really stand out within your home.
If you prefer paint, a rich, deep colour can work really well as a backdrop, contrasting with the neutral shades elsewhere in the room and giving the illusion of extra depth. To completely overhaul your room, try adding new fabric sofas and a table to the space, perhaps changing the mood of the room by choosing contrasting colours for your feature wall and furniture.
Whatever you decide to go for, you can be sure a feature wall will have a great impact on your living room, with a minimal amount of fuss involved.
