Turning a spare room into an elegant dressing room

Have your kids grown up and left home? As well as loads more free time, do you now have an excess of space, and no clear plan for what to do with it?
Now that you have the time to entertain more often, or to go out to the theatre, or a romantic restaurant, why not treat yourself to a beautiful and elegant dressing room, so that you are always perfectly dressed, and your wardrobe is always in tip-top condition?
It's so easy to create a stunning dressing room, especially with the fantastic array of options that are available online. In no time at all, you can turn that unused space into an inviting and sophisticated room that will help you make the most of your personal style.
Before you start furnishing, take a look at the décor and see if a new look is in order - a cool lemon yellow is a great way to make sure that you have a truly inspiring space in which to get ready for any occasion. Most interior companies will provide you with paint samples if you want to experiment - so make sure you choose the colour you most want, as this is a place to pamper yourself, and everything should be just so, according to your personal taste.
As far as furniture goes, the first two pieces are obvious - you'll need a spacious wardrobe, preferably full-hanging to ensure that your clothes are properly cared for. It's a good idea to get a double or triple wardrobe, so that as your collection of clothes expands, you have plenty of space to store them without leaving bundles of clothes lying over the backs of chairs.
After the wardrobe, the dressing table is key, and it's important to get one that has space for all your beauty accessories. A dressing table mirror is the perfect accompaniment to an elegant table, as well as a comfortable upholstered stool. You may also want to be bold and get a sophisticated chaise longue on which to recline and read fashion magazines.
For the perfect finishing touch, invest in a full-length mirror, so that you can check out your favourite outfits and always ensure that you look your best. It's also a good idea to set up a lighting scheme that allows you to get the best view at all times.
