Hardwood Conservatories

Timber is without doubt the most attractive material for a conservatory. It looks beautiful and will enhance your property in a way that is impossible to achieve with PVCu.

But you shouldn't specify any timber, especially a softwood for a conservatory, or allow a salesperson to convince you that a softwood will be OK.

While softwood is a cheaper option since it is easier for carpenters and installers to work with, it shrinks and expands and is quite likely to rot. So although hardwood is a more expensive option at the point of installation, even within a few years it can work out cheaper as it is more durable and won't warp.

Hardwood conservatories are made from a variety of timbers including oak, mahogany, idigbo, meranti, sapele, utile and iroko. But conservatories cannot be built from hardwoods such as beech, which although excellent for internal use, is not durable when exposed to the British weather.

You must make sure that the timber has been thoroughly pre-treated before installation and you will need to allow for periodic painting or staining of the interior and exterior.

We don't even produce big glossy brochures showing our work, since we know that many of these will simply get thrown away and not even recycled. We depend on the photographs that our installation consultants can show you, or that you can find on our website.
